Correction and Retraction Policy
Jurnal Hukum Islam (JHI) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or concerns may arise after an article has been published and will take appropriate action to correct the scholarly record when necessary.
This policy applies to all articles published in Jurnal Hukum Islam and is implemented in accordance with recognized publication ethics principles, including relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Corrections
A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article and the error affects the accuracy, clarity, or completeness of the publication without invalidating its overall findings or principal conclusions.
Corrections may address, but are not limited to:
-
Errors in author names, affiliations, or other publication metadata.
-
Typographical or factual errors that affect the interpretation of the article.
-
Incorrect references, citations, tables, figures, or other published information.
-
Errors in data presentation or legal citations that require clarification but do not undermine the article's principal conclusions.
Requests for correction may be submitted by authors, readers, editors, or other parties who identify a verifiable error. The editorial team will assess the request and may consult the authors or independent experts before making a decision.
When a correction is approved, the journal will publish a clearly identified correction notice linked to the original article. The original article will remain accessible, and the correction will be documented transparently.
2. Retractions
Retraction may be necessary when the reliability or integrity of a published article is seriously compromised. Grounds for retraction may include:
-
Plagiarism or substantial unattributed duplication.
-
Fabrication or falsification of research data, evidence, or findings.
-
Serious methodological errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.
-
Unethical research practices or significant violations of research ethics.
-
Duplicate publication or substantial redundant publication that compromises the scholarly record.
-
Material authorship or publication misconduct that undermines the integrity of the article.
-
Other serious circumstances demonstrating that the article's findings or scholarly content cannot be relied upon.
Retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record rather than punish authors. A retraction does not automatically imply that every author was involved in misconduct; responsibility must be assessed according to the available evidence.
3. Expression of Concern
Where credible concerns have been raised but an investigation remains incomplete, the journal may publish an Expression of Concern.
An Expression of Concern informs readers that the reliability or integrity of an article is under examination. It may remain in place until sufficient evidence is available to determine whether a correction, retraction, or other action is appropriate.
4. Retraction Procedure
When a potential need for retraction is identified, the editorial team will:
-
Conduct a preliminary assessment of the concern and available evidence.
-
Contact the corresponding author and, where appropriate, other authors to request an explanation.
-
Consult independent experts or the relevant institution when necessary.
-
Evaluate the evidence fairly and impartially, providing the parties concerned with a reasonable opportunity to respond.
-
Make and document an editorial decision based on the evidence, the seriousness of the issue, and applicable publication ethics standards.
The journal may proceed with appropriate action even if an author does not respond or disagrees with the decision, provided that the decision is adequately supported by the available evidence.
Where necessary, the journal may contact the authors' institutions, research funders, or other competent authorities.
5. Retraction Notice and Article Availability
A retraction notice will clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for retraction to the extent possible without breaching confidentiality or applicable legal obligations.
The notice will include the article title, author information, publication details, DOI where available, the reason for retraction, and the party initiating the retraction where appropriate.
The retraction notice will be linked to the original article, and the original publication will ordinarily remain accessible in the journal archive with a clear retracted status. The article will not be silently removed or altered in a way that conceals the retraction, except where removal is required by law or exceptional circumstances.
The journal will update relevant article metadata and notify applicable indexing or preservation services where appropriate and technically possible.
6. Responsibilities of Authors and Editors
Authors are encouraged to notify the editorial office promptly if they discover significant errors in their published work. Authors should cooperate with requests for clarification and provide relevant evidence during correction or retraction assessments.
Editors are responsible for evaluating concerns objectively, managing conflicts of interest, maintaining confidentiality where appropriate, and documenting decisions. Editorial decisions will be based on the integrity of the scholarly record rather than personal, institutional, or commercial interests.
7. Appeals
Authors or other directly affected parties may submit a reasoned appeal against a correction or retraction decision. Appeals must provide relevant evidence or identify a substantive procedural concern.
Where practicable, an editor or independent reviewer who was not materially involved in the original decision will assess the appeal. The journal will communicate the outcome to the parties concerned.
8. Contact and Reporting
Requests for corrections, notifications of significant errors, and concerns regarding the reliability or integrity of published articles should be submitted to the editorial office of Jurnal Hukum Islam through the official contact information provided on the journal website.
All requests and allegations will be assessed in accordance with this policy and the journal's broader publication ethics requirements.
Jurnal Hukum Islam is committed to ensuring that corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are handled fairly, transparently, and proportionately to preserve trust in scholarly communication.
