Conflict of Interest
The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) is committed to ensuring transparency, impartiality, and integrity throughout the research and publication process. All authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may affect the objectivity of research, the fairness of peer review, or editorial decision-making. Such transparency is fundamental to preserving academic credibility and public confidence in scholarly publications.
1. Definition of Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest, also referred to as a competing interest, arises when financial, personal, professional, academic, or institutional relationships may influence, or reasonably appear to influence, an individual's judgment, independence, or responsibilities in the preparation, evaluation, or publication of a manuscript.
Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:
-
Financial Interests: Research grants, funding arrangements, employment, consultancy fees, honoraria, shareholdings, patents, or other financial benefits associated with the subject of the manuscript.
-
Personal Relationships: Family relationships, close personal associations, personal disputes, or current or previous supervisory and mentoring relationships between authors, reviewers, and editors.
-
Professional and Institutional Interests: Employment, institutional affiliations, professional commitments, academic competition, or collaborative relationships with organizations or individuals that may be affected by the publication's outcomes.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
-
Disclosure Requirements: Authors must disclose all relevant actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest when submitting their manuscripts through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Any relevant competing interests should also be reported in the manuscript.
-
Funding Disclosure: Authors must identify all financial support received for conducting the research and preparing the manuscript, including the names of funding institutions and grant identification numbers, where applicable. If the research received no external funding, authors should include the following statement:
"This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."
-
Conflict of Interest Statement: A separate section entitled "Conflict of Interest Statement" must be included in the manuscript immediately before the References section. When no competing interests exist, authors should use the following declaration:
"The authors declare that they have no financial, personal, professional, or institutional conflicts of interest that could have influenced the research, analysis, or publication of this article."
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Objectivity and Withdrawal: Reviewers are expected to provide independent, objective, and impartial assessments.
