Abstract

A learning method used by teachers can make students interested in learning, unfortunately mathematics is one of the subjects that students do not like because it is considered difficult. Thus, it is necessary to apply a learning method that can attract students' interest in learning and be active in learning activities. This study looks at the effect of the inquiry method with instructional video media which aims to (1) determine the effect of the video-based inquiry method in terms of increasing critical thinking skills and (2) reviewing the activeness of class VIII junior high school students during learning. The method used in this research is quantitative with an experimental design of one group pre test post test. Pre test and post test are used to measure students' mathematical critical thinking skills by calculating the gain test. The distribution of questionnaires to see student responses related to student activity, and filling out observation sheets by observers to see student activity and learning implementation. The results obtained by the video-based inquiry method of learning students' critical thinking skills increased with moderate criteria with an average score of 0.53 and students were active in learning activities using the inquiry method with high achievement criteria with an average score of 75%.
