Manuscript Types
Circle: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika prioritizes original empirical research articles that present systematically collected and analyzed data, demonstrate methodological rigor, and offer significant theoretical and practical contributions to mathematics education.
The journal considers the following manuscript types:
1. Original Research Articles
Original Research Articles constitute the primary manuscript category of Circle: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika. These articles report original findings from empirical investigations that contribute to the development of mathematical knowledge, pedagogical theory, curriculum policy, and instructional practices in mathematics education. The journal welcomes empirical studies employing qualitative, quantitative, Mixed-Methods, or Research and Development (R&D) approaches—including experimental and quasi-experimental studies, Design Research (Didactical Design Research), classroom action research, case studies, ethnomathematics field studies, and evaluations of technology-assisted learning media. Submitted manuscripts must demonstrate originality, a clearly defined research problem, sound theoretical foundations, methodological transparency, systematic data analysis, and meaningful scholarly contributions.
Original Research Articles are expected to:
-
Address relevant and significant issues within the journal's focus and scope in mathematics education.
-
Identify a clear research problem, research gap, and specific objectives.
-
Establish a theoretical and empirical foundation based on relevant mathematics education literature.
-
Employ appropriate and clearly explained research methods, research instruments, and validation procedures.
-
Present original findings supported by systematically collected and rigorously analyzed quantitative or qualitative data.
-
Critically discuss the findings in relation to previous studies and relevant cognitive, pedagogical, or mathematical theories.
-
Explain the theoretical, methodological, instructional, or curricular implications of the research.
-
Present conclusions that are strictly consistent with the research objectives and empirical findings.
In accordance with the journal's Author Guidelines, empirical research manuscripts must follow this structure: Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References (or separated Results and Discussion sections where appropriate).
The Introduction must incorporate the research background, relevant literature review, state of the art (novelty), research gap, and explicit research objectives or questions. The Method section must explain the research design, participants/subjects, research instruments, data collection procedures, and analytical techniques (such as statistical tests, N-Gain evaluations, or qualitative coding schemes). The Results and Discussion section must present original findings—supported by clear tables, mathematical representations, or visualizations of student work—and critically interpret their significance within the broader mathematics education discourse.
Original empirical research articles receive editorial priority, provided that they meet the journal's standards of originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and scholarly relevance.
2. Conceptual or Literature Review Articles
Conceptual or library-based articles provide a critical, analytical, and comprehensive examination of existing scholarly literature relevant to mathematics education. These manuscripts are intended to synthesize established knowledge, evaluate theoretical and empirical developments, identify research gaps, and advance scholarly understanding of contemporary issues in mathematics teaching and learning.
Circle: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika considers review manuscripts that make substantive contributions to mathematics education studies, particularly those addressing mathematical thinking and literacy (e.g., problem-solving, reasoning, spatial ability), instructional media and digital technology integration (e.g., AR/VR, dynamic geometry software, educational games), ethnomathematics, mathematics teacher education, and assessment frameworks. Review Articles may include Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR), meta-analyses, critical literature reviews, and integrative reviews. Bibliometric analysis may be incorporated where appropriate to complement the substantive synthesis.
Review Articles are expected to:
-
Clearly define the review objectives and specific research questions.
-
Establish the relevance and significance of the topic to mathematics teaching, learning, or curriculum development.
-
Explain the literature identification, screening, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and analytical procedures.
-
Critically evaluate relevant learning theories, empirical findings, and methodological approaches in mathematics education.
-
Synthesize the literature systematically and coherently rather than merely listing previous studies.
-
Identify significant theoretical, empirical, or pedagogical research gaps.
-
Offer original interpretations, conceptual frameworks, or clear directions for future mathematics education research.
-
Demonstrate a clear contribution to the advancement of mathematics education scholarship.
Systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses should employ transparent and reproducible procedures and follow internationally recognized reporting guidelines, such as PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses), where applicable. Review manuscripts consisting primarily of descriptive summaries or pure bibliometric mappings without deep critical synthesis, analytical depth, or identifiable scholarly contributions to mathematics education will not be considered.
Conceptual or library-based articles are considered a complementary manuscript category, while original empirical research remains the journal's principal publication priority.

Ethical Guidelines Common to All Manuscript Types
Circle: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika upholds strict ethical standards across all submissions:
-
Originality & Plagiarism: All manuscript types undergo rigorous screening for originality and must not contain plagiarized text, fabricated/manipulated data, or uncredited ideas, per the strict COPE Guidelines on Plagiarism.
-
Authorship Integrity: All listed authors across every manuscript category must definitively fulfill the criteria for authorship and substantive contribution, as defined in the COPE Authorship Guidelines.
-
Competing Interests: Authors must clearly disclose all financial or non-financial conflicts of interest regardless of the article category, per COPE's mandate on Handling Conflicts of Interest.
-
Redundant Publication: Authors must not submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research to more than one journal simultaneously, referring to the COPE Redundant Publication Guidelines.
Circle: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika uses double-anonymous peer review, so each type of manuscript has two versions of its template (an anonymized main manuscript and a separate Title Page containing author details). Both files must be uploaded at submission.
